About Uttarpara

A short history of Uttarpara’s development from an unknown and sparsely populated water-land to the throbbing metropolis of today.

Ratneswar Roy Chowdhury of “Sabarna Roy Chowdhury” landlord family of Bengal founded the town named UTTARPARA.  Through marriage with his family many industrious and talented men came over from various places and land was gifted by Ratneswar Roy  and they made “Uttarapara” their home.  All of them by their acts of development of this town turned “Uttarpara” into a heritage town of history in Bengal.

1)The first Zamindar of “Uttarpara” Babu Joykrishna Mukherjee was as immensely rich land lord.  Instead of squandering away his wealth in frivolous activities like other such landlords of Bengal, he devoted his wealth and acumen in developing Uttarpara into a city with all modern facilities.
